Pupils from the “Trávník” primary school in Přerov, Czech Republic, organised an Action Day aimed at drawing attention to issues of responsible food consumption, including excessive meat consumption, palm oil, land grabbing and food waste. They built booths in front of the schools to present the outcomes of their long-term efforts. Visitors could admire impressive cardboard models presenting selected sub-topics of responsible food consumption prepared by students themselves based on their investigation of the issue. On these models, students expressed the heart of the problem of palm oil plantation, land grabbing and meat production, which is far more resource-intensive than a diet based on plants. The model is based on the fact that one-third of agricultural land is used for the production of animal feed. Estimates say that ten times more people could be fed if this land produced food directly for humans. Children were able to not only explain the issue and its solutions in their own words but also present solutions that every consumer can apply in their everyday diet.
