Certain workshops were organized by students themselves.

From chickens and the Amazonia to the secret behind cakes

All the stalls presented during the day were very successful and attracted a lot of attention from visitors who expressed keen interest in the information presented. They could read posters such as „Recipes of our grandmothers, “„Local and seasonal food, “„Is it really time for strawberries?,“ „People behind our food,“ „The connection between chickens and the Amazonian forest,“ „The secret behind cakes,“ „Conservation of agricultural biodiversity,“ and many others. The organizers managed to cover all the topics and issues of the We Eat Responsibly project, but mainly, they proved their understanding of many crucial problems of our world and tried to explain them to their parents and friends.

There were also stalls of the local kindergarten and primary school, stalls of beekeepers, herbalists, local food producers, of the Youth Center Zagorje ob Savi and even a stall of the European Union. So many different people and groups participated at „A Day of Change “, even the Mayor of Zagorje ob Savi, Members of the Slovene Parliament or the national TV – to see how the youngsters were showing and explaining to their parents and older friends how they want to take care of our planet and eat responsibly too!

Reusable shopping bags

At the beginning of We Eat Responsibly project, interviews with students about their relation to the environment and food were carried out. Based on that, they participated in various activities. The most successful was the awareness raising campaign about single-use bags. Students and teachers decided to sew their own reusable bags from useless waste of curtains and textiles. They wanted to donate these bags to citizens in one of the shopping centers in Zagorje. Mothers and grandmothers and friends of the students also helped and together they managed to sew around 250 reusable bags. Afterward, they presented the project in the supermarket Spar and handed out their reusable bags to the shoppers.

During the program, students learned how important food issues are. They also had the opportunity to appear on national radio shows, television, and in the newspaper. They got in touch with local producers, got their parents, grandparents, and friends engaged in the We Eat Responsibly educational program and cooperated with shops. They started to think about food issues critically and to feel responsible for the change carried out by themselves but also by others.
