Primary school “Trávník” in Přerov is one of the Czech schools engaged in We Eat Responsibly project. Local Eco-team consisting of children and teachers choose food waste as their main topic and it decided to make a real change in their schools. In the school canteen children placed a “hungry box” where they can put away uneaten food such as fruit, yogurts or sweets. This food that would otherwise end up in a rubish bin is available for other children. It is very simple and smart way how to avoid food waste! It also helps children to understand a value of food. Because children can see the box in the canteen they rather place their snack in it or take it back home than throw it away. So the benefit of the box is not only reduction of food waste but also and more importantly change of childrens’ mind set that can bring sustainable change of our future world.
